Triathletes
On Thursday 24 November two potential Team Great Britain Triathletes, Adam Bowden and Mark Buckingham, from The Wells Foundation visited Sir Jonathan North. They took the time out from their busy training schedule at Loughborough University to visit GCSE PE students and Year 10 Sports Leaders.
The duo led a question and answer session explaining in detail what they do physically and mentally to prepare for such an extreme sport. They talked through their rigorous daily training schedule of running, swimming and cycling. With the importance of diet and nutrition not forgotten, everyone was given the opportunity to taste various nutritional supplements.
After completing a warm-up skills session led by Mark and Adam, students then embarked on a duathalon (run-bike-run). They had a first hand experience of pushing themselves physically and mentally through the barriers of a tough event. “I was feeling ok until the last run.”
Maisie Anderson (10.5).
Both Mark and Adam both expressed how impressed they were that all students completed the duathalon, showing a highly competitive spirit!
Finishing off the day at Sir Jonathan North, the pair kindly extended their stay to be interviewed by Zaytun Duale (10.8) for Rise Radio. This interview can heard on the Rise Radio website - Show 4 Part 2.
