Dynamic DNA
DNA is the molecular blueprint for all living things and is used in many medical fields. DNA fingerprinting has become a permanent part of civilisation; the process can apply itself in many situations from helping to prove innocence or guilt in criminal cases to resolving immigration arguments and also clarifying paternity. On Thursday 15 September, 60 of our Year 9s visited the Dynamic DNA event at the University of Leicester where it all began, over 25 years ago. Dynamic DNA is a day full of fun and learning for students with over 18 hands-on activities, all themed around DNA and genetics. Here is what our students thought:
βI really enjoyed the Dynamic DNA event, mostly the extracting banana DNA session. It was really creepy looking at the flies (Drosophila) under the Microscope! Learnt a lot!β Ruby Kelman.
βIt was a brilliant experience as I learnt about many genetic ideas. I really enjoyed making my DNA bracelets.β Khushbu Murabia
