Art Residential Trip to Cornwall - July 2011
At the end of last term, we took 28 students on a four day residential trip to Cornwall. We stayed at the Youth Hostel in Golant which is a large country house in its own grounds overlooking the Fowey River.

The itinerary included trips to the Barbara Hepworth Museum and the Tate Gallery in St Ives, The Lost Gardens at Heligan, and the Eden Project. The weather was mixed but good enough to complete drawings outside in Barbara Hepworth’s lovely sculpture garden, and it certainly did not put off the ice cream hungry seagulls at the beach front of St Ives!

The exhibitions at the Tate provoked thought and caused amusement, especially Martin Creed’s work which was an exhibition gallery filled floor to ceiling with large white balloons. The gardens at Heligan were inspiring and the main comment that the girls made about the Eden Project was that we couldn’t stay long enough.

The girls enjoyed the trip and their conduct was exemplary. We all received comments praising the girls’ excellent behaviour by staff and the public at the various places we visited.
This is the second time we have run this residential trip. Will we run it again? Oh yes!
