Gene Day

On Saturday, Year 8 students took part in a Genetics Master Class. During the master class students learnt all about the gene code for our characteristics and about the uses of DNA fingerprinting in solving murders and other applications. Students also made a DNA double helix key ring of part of their own genome.

In the afternoon parents took part in a science lesson and used QR codes and iphones to find the genetic code to make a baby. Once parents found the genetic code, they were asked to translate the genetic code by drawing a baby with the appropriate characteristics. This was followed by a session on extracting their DNA and putting it into a necklace

Thank you to all Year 8s and parents who took part. The staff were very impressed with your knowledge and the speed at which you learnt some new and very challenging concepts. Well done.
